Making Bird Toys

Here is a photo essay of toy making by our caretaker, Christopher (Rigdzin). He uses natural products: Douglas fir boards stained with food coloring, sisal rope also stained with food coloring, climbing rope, soft woods such as Agave, packing cardboard rolls, and burlap. Some birds spend hours unknotting the rope while others turn the wood to splinters or do both. The burlap is also used as “foliage” hanging in the cage for natural hiding space for the birds.
